They allow us to become better citizens and also give us the oppo rtunity to exercise our right to freedom of speech.The debate has to be used with the students who need it most. The students who need it most would be those who feel that the discussion is upsetting or even threatening. Controversies must be used by all students who need it, to make the most of it.A controversy must be used to not only provoke debate in the classroom, but also to encourage debate within the child's viewpoint. This way we can make it easier for the children to confront the ideas with the arguments of their teachers.Controversy topics can be used in many ways, in a number of subjects and of any age group. If the topics are used in the correct way, they can help both parties reach a better understanding of their arguments and can in fact help to bring us together as a nation, through the common experiences we all share.
